Depression makes every day a crippling struggle.
Every second seems tedious and arduous.
Every minute seems like a fight.
Every hour you count until you’re able to go back to sleep.
But the horrible reality is that you’ll wake up tomorrow and go through it all over again.
The empty, hopeless feelings…
The self-loathing…
The negative self-talk that never ends…
It’s a vicious cycle: You believe the lies that you’re worthless and don’t matter, so you withdraw from others, which only makes you more depressed.
Everyone gets depressed at some point, but…
If not treated, it can steal away your potential and rob you of your dreams.
If not treated, it can lead you to believe the lies you’re telling yourself.
If not treated, it can lead to suicidal thoughts.
Whether your depression is because of the recent loss of a loved one, abuse as a child, or simply a life transition, I am here to help you work through these issues and help you become more self-supportive of your journey.
This will be our approach to making you feel better…
My goal is not necessarily to “cure you of your sadness.”
Instead, I want to help you find new possibilities to deal with your grief and pain. I want to help you incorporate all parts of yourself so you can function more fully.
I once had a teenager dealing with depression because of the abuse he had endured from his father throughout his life. I asked him to speak to his father as if he were there. He hesitated at first, but he began to say all the things he could never say.
However, I realized how “nice” he was being. I asked him to repeat it without holding back. He was from an Asian background, so it was hard for him to be “disrespectful” to his father despite the abuse he endured as a child. He said it was nearly impossible for him to raise his voice to his father.
Finally, he could release his anger authentically that was uninhibited and real. He said he experienced a great deal of catharsis through his tears, even though the pain was still there and very real.
He may have never “gotten over” the hurt caused by his father, but he could deal with it in a more constructive way than suppressing his feelings.
This is just one example of how I work with clients. Ultimately, I try to give my clients an experience that they can take with them outside of the therapy office.
You don’t have to deal with your depression all alone.
You don’t have to isolate yourself any further.
If you’re looking to break free from the chains of depression, find a voice, and discover new possibilities, please allow me the honor of joining you in your journey.
